Max heart rate testing is used to determine an athlete’s maximum heart rate; from which heart rate training zones can be determined. For any athlete using heart rate to measure their effort, this is an essential piece of information.
Without a clear indication of your maximum heart rate, training for improved performance will be a hit and miss affair, which generally leads to training too hard in easy sessions and not hard enough in key sessions.
The results of a max heart rate test will ensure the appropriate training program and training intensity zones are applied based on the athlete’s goals and sporting/racing experience.
